I decided something had to change, I couldn't continue like this. At first I made list for others. I would also hint about what I wanted. I alluded to being exhausted and still...crickets!
Finally I realized that the change had to come from within me. I could only control myself and my actions. I began to say NO when I was asked to help or do for others. Now this was different and very much out of my comfort zone. I felt guilty at the beginning.
But slowly I began to feel empowered! I realized I wasn't doing anything wrong. I was simply evaluating whether I had the time, the energy, or the will to help out, if not I respected myself by saying NO.
I began to feel less stressed, less pressure, and I even found myself with some extra time. I picked up a book and began to read for pleasure, something I hadn't done in years.
